La Crosse WS-9410U Indoor Thermo-Hygrometer

The La Crosse WS-9410U may just be the perfect indoor thermo-hygrometer. Not only does it display temperature and humidity digitally, it also has a humidity bar graph and displays an indoor comfort indication as well. To top things off, the WS-9410U has a minimum/maximum memory for both temperature and humidity. And is this station ever easy to use!

The WS-9410U is medium-small in size at about 6 inches wide by 5.5 inches high. Its 4-line LCD panel is approximately 3 by 2.5 inches in size. Here is what the LCD panel displays, top to bottom:

• The top line is a humidity bar graph (the instruction manual calls it a humidity level bar). It shows indoor relative humidity from 2% to 98%, and each bar on the graph corresponds to 2% humidity.

• The second line is a digital display of the indoor relative humidity from 1.0% to 99.9% with 0.1% resolution. The bold digits are almost a full inch tall for easy viewing.

• The third line displays an indoor comfort indication. A happy face icon appears if the temperature is between 68.0°F and 78.6°F and the relative humidity is between 45% and 65%. A sad face icon appears if either or both values are outside of these ranges. A low-battery icon is displayed in the third line when battery replacement becomes necessary. Also, the third line is where min and max are displayed when the memory feature is used.

• The fourth line is a digital display of the indoor temperature from 14.2°F to 122.0°F with 0.1°F resolution. The bold digits are almost a full inch tall for easy viewing.

The WS-9410U automatically enters into memory the minimum and maximum indoor temperatures and humidity it has measured since the last memory reset. To view these records, you momentarily press the MIN MAX button four times. It's on the front of the station, just below the LCD panel. With the first press, you see the maximum recorded temperature. Press the button three more times to view the minimum recorded temperature, the maximum recorded humidity, and the minimum recorded humidity. The maximum and minimum humidity displays actually include the humidity bar graph. A fifth momentary press of the MIN MAX button returns you to the current temperature and humidity.

You can reset the temperature and humidity memory any time you want simply by holding the MIN MAX button depressed for 2 seconds. This returns the min/max memory to the current temperature and humidity values.

As mentioned above, there's no absolutely no setup needed for the WS-9410U. All you have to do to activate the station is insert two AAA (1.5V) alkaline batteries. These are not included and must be obtained separately.

The WS-9410U is simply and handsomely styled, with a two-tone case in semi-metallic colors that are not exactly shades of silver but not exactly shades of gold, either. We'd say they fall somewhere between the two, and they look great together. An integral folding stand allows the station to be used as a freestanding unit, or it can be mounted on a wall. With its good looks and useful features, the WS-9410U will be a valued accessory in the home, the office, and virtually any other indoor environment.

We'd be remiss not to suggest that the WS-9410U makes a great gift. It's good-looking, practical, and inexpensive. Its digital displays are big and bold enough to be easily read by almost everyone. It requires no setup and is incredibly easy to operate (just press a single button to step through the station's displays). In short, the WS-9410U is a high-tech product that even non-technical types can appreciate and use.
