La Crosse
EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer
|
|
|
The La Crosse EA-3010U Handheld Anemometer
is
a practical and economical choice for people who enjoy outdoor
activities in a wide range of weather conditions and want or need to know the wind
speed plus the temperature and wind chill factor. With only two buttons to push,
the EA-3010U is exceptionally easy to set up and use. The MODE button
turns the instrument on and off and also selects the main operating
mode, either wind speed or temperature. Within an operating mode, you
push the + button to toggle between the available display options. It's
that easy!

|

|
Small enough to fit
in almost any pocket, pack, or purse, the La Crosse EA-3010U displays current, maximum, and average wind speeds plus
the temperature and wind chill. Wind speeds can be digitally
displayed in any of 4 different measurement units. Also displayed
is a Beaufort wind scale bar graph whose reading corresponds to the digital
wind speed display.
|
|
|
|
In the wind speed mode, the
EA-3010U can display the current wind speed, the maximum
wind speed since power-on, and the average wind speed
since power-on. During setup, you can select a period of 2
to 10 seconds over which wind speed is averaged for the
current wind speed reading. Also during setup, you can
select km/h (kilometers per hour), mph (miles per hour),
m/s (meters per second), or Kts (knots) as the digital
wind speed indication.
The Beaufort wind scale bar
graph is continuously displayed in both the wind speed and
temperature modes and reads from 0 (Calm) to 12
(Hurricane). For each numeric wind force indication, a
handy table in the instruction manual gives the
description (such as Fresh Breeze or Strong Gale) and the
corresponding wind speed in all 4 displayable measuring
units.
In the temperature mode,
the EA-3010U can display the current temperature or
current wind chill. During setup, you can select either °F or
°C for these readings.
One
particularly nice feature of this pocket anemometer is the
condensed set of instructions printed on the back of the
instrument. Another is the LCD panel backlight with
8-second auto-off. Still another is the included
detachable lanyard so you can wear the EA-3010U
around your neck if you wish.
Although the EA-3010U's
case is weather-resistant, this instrument is not
submersible.
The EA-3010U is powered by
one CR2032 (3V) lithium battery, which is included and
preinstalled. To maximize battery life, the anemometer
automatically turns itself off after 34 minutes if no
button is pressed during that time. For reliability, the
manufacturer recommends that you replace the battery
annually.
Please note that anemometers
of this type are sensitive to magnetic
fields. These instruments work by picking up magnetic impulses transmitted by the spinning
impeller blades, processing them into logic pulses, and supplying them in binary
form to the LCD panel. This means that the instrument may display numeric
values when in a magnetic field (from a computer, electric appliance, etc.).
However, this will not affect operation under normal circumstances.
